Usually on a Saturday I will watch about the same amount of television. I’ll turn on the TV in the morning when I wake up just to hear it. I’ll usually go in make breakfast for me and my boyfriend or start getting ready for the day. The only thing that was different is that I did not flip through channels as much as I would have if I was not doing this assignment. But even having to watch one station for at lest fifteen minutes I did not miss anything. Most of my shows come on television Sunday or Monday evening, the only show I normally watch is Avatar: The Airbender.

On Saturday a friend and I went looking for a job so the gap between the time I ended watching TV to the time I restarted I was out were there was not any television to watch. And for the other half of the time I spent watching television it was with my boyfriend, and with him we talk during the commercial, so it make it easy to not flip the channel to something else.

I did not like the fact that I had to keep a journal, keeping a journal was a little tedious for me. I could never do it for the company. Just the idea of writing down everything you watch after awhile I would just stop taking a journal. I am a flipper and I do not like commercial, but I did find out that I still watch a lot of cartoons. Although, I starting to think that I watch I little to much TV.

3. Well, I wouldn't say that this was my typical routine of watching television. Normally, I really don't watch much tv, nor do I have a list of programs that I MUST watch throughout the week, so for me, my tv watching can be kind of random and my time spent on tv varies constantly. Considering that I logged this on a Saturday in the fall, which for me translates to College Football, I feel that I limited the amount of regular programs I would usually watch on a Saturday. On this Saturday, my tv viewing was more spread out throughout the day and relatively small. It could be that I was anticipating the big Texas Tech/UT game, so I kept myself busy doing other things. I did watch a few shows that I am familiar with like The Island, South of Nowhere and Degrassi, but they were all re-runs, so they didn't really grab my attention and I found myself either changing the channel, turning off the tv, or just on my laptop while sort of listening to the show. I didn't watch any new shows that I haven't seen before, nor did I have any particular show that I wanted to see, but missed out on. I have also never recorded a tv show because I don't have a DVR or Tivo.

4. On this particular Saturday, I did not watch any tv shows online, DVD or at a different location, but I have in the past. At work, in our break room we have a television with cable that is always on and anyone can change the channel if they want to and I have also gone over to  a friend's house plenty of times to watch a big sporting event and just hang out. When the big Tech/UT game came on, I did have a few friends over at my house to watch. I have also seen tv online too. If I miss an interview that I wanted to catch on Conan O'Brien, I watch it on NBC.com, which is really convenient.

5.  I can't say that I'm a huge fan of keeping track of what you're watching, but I would do it for a few extra dollars. I'm not normally a channel surfer and when I logged what I watched on Saturday, it was no different, so I didn't have a problem with the 15 minute increments. I don't like commercials, but I use that break time between the program to do other things real quick. Like I mentioned earlier, my viewing habits are random and it really depends on if I have down time to spare to television. I think that I watch a less amount of tv during the week and a bit more on the weekend since there is more time to spare and just relax in front of the tube. As for the Nielsen Journal being reliable, I actually think that it is kind of inaccurate due to the fact that they miss out on a whole other spectrum like the people who watch tv online, people who catch shows at another person's home, etc. Nowadays, there are other ways to watch tv and the Nielsen Journal is not capturing those viewers' habits. Also, some people may be a bit too lazy to actually write down everything they have watched, so there can be an inaccurate measure in that area. I do think that it is an interesting way to find out your own tv habits, but it may not be the most accurate because of those possible mistakes.

3. Sundays are usually pretty typical days for me to watch television because I make it a priority to be around the house on that day and this includes watching some TV. I defiantly watch more TV on Sundays than I do on any other day. There are really not any shows I am a regular viewer of on Sundays it is just what ever is on I tune into, such as football and for some strange reason I always seem to watch meet the press in the morning when I am eating some breakfast before church. It is a convenient show that is always on and it actually is quite interesting, since it always is about what is going on in the country. And football is always a great relaxer to lie on the couch to, except lately I have been getting mad since the cowboys have sucked. There was a show that I never really watch which was, “The Today Show”. I normally am up later than when this show comes on but since it was daylight savings time I woke up earlier than normal. I watch it during the week on occasion and I love it, I love the recipes and great random helpful tips it gives. I did miss one of my all time favorite shows, which is Extreme Home Makeover, but I miss it every Sunday due to young life leadership, and I always seem to forget to record it so I never end up getting to watch it!

4. None of these questions asked apply to my television watching. I hardly ever watch television on the internet and I was not in a restaurant on this day to have any TV watching done there. Oh yes, but my mom was watching the news that night with me and the meet the press that morning. And the football game in the middle of the day I watched with both of my parents. Honestly I do not think that this journal is a good way to keep track of television watching for individuals because it does not cover the channel surfing, or recorded shows or watching a DVD or something that has been recorded. This journal is a very difficult way of tracking what has been watched that day or week, since it only has certain time slots, certain people, one spot for a channel and time and so forth. It simply does not seem reliable what so ever to what people are really watching.

3. This was not typical of my TV watching. I usually watch a little bit more and have certain shows I watch, but I mainly started watching movies on TV while I worked on homework. I usually try to catch “House”, “Scrubs”, or cartoons like “Southpark” and “Family Guy”. I love “Sons of Anarchy” but it hasn’t been on long enough for them to show reruns during the rest of the week. “Quigley Down Under” I have never seen all the way through and still haven’t, but I think it’s a good western movie even though it takes place in Australia and it stars the guy from “Magnum P.I.”. All of the other movies I watched that day I had seen before so it didn’t bother me that wasn’t fully watching them. I got a lot of homework done though. I do not have DVR or Tivo or anything, thus I have to watch everything when they come on or catch them on the net. I have only watched one show on the web and that was “Son of Anarchy”. I could always use more “House” and “Scrubs” and they need to air more than just movies on Saturdays. My fiancĂ© and I watch a lot of TV with each other. When recording what I watched though, we were in separate rooms.

4. Due to my financial restraints, I didn’t really go anywhere this weekend. I watch video clips on youtube.com all the time but I don’t really watch television on the net. I didn’t watch TV at a friend’s house or at a restaurant. I didn’t watch any shows on DVD either because I do not have the money to go out and buy seasons of shows.

5. On this particular day, I didn’t think I watched that much TV. I do not believe this is a reliable source of recording TV habits amongst TV watchers. Having to write down what I watched and when I watched it took the fun out of watching TV. What if people forget to write a show down while they are watching it. I flip channels a lot but I wasn’t necessarily sure if I needed to write them down since I didn’t watch them for that long. I think that it should record Television habits in 5 minute increments to fully catch every show.

3. This watching was a little atypical. I was working on my halloween costume for work and so I was paying attention but not really watching the television. Hence, the reruns and random channel flipping. Also since I was preoccupied with working on my costume I watched more television than I normally do. I do not have a DVR and I only have basic cable so I usually watch most my programming online. Also since I work so much I usually do not have time to plan around television. I typically wait till the next day when the shows are posted online to watch them. I hate commercials and so I am a huge channel flipper which is more evident in the later viewing hours that I recorded because I was not busy with something else. I usually stay on a channel until the commercials hit and then I find something else. Most of the time the shows I am watching are easy to flip away from and require little to no deduction to get back into later. There were a few channel flips that I was surprised to see later on after recording my results. Such as The Real Exorcist and Most Haunted Light Houses.
4. Yes I have playlists that I made on youtube of movies or comedy specials and typically I log on and watch this. However, I watched a DVD of season 2 of Robot Chicken on this night. I do watch tv at work. The television is usually on in the background so I listen and sometimes pay attention. Most of the time I am by myself so I hardly am watching with another person. This is due to the fact that I am typically so busy and my friends and I do not have matching schedules. Also television is something I do to fill the time not occupy it so when I am with friends or family we are out and about.
5. I found that I watch way more television than I thought I did. I also found out that I really enjoy House and the USA channel in general. I also found that I get impatient with television and commercials. I also found that I do not watch particularly popular shows. I tried for the purpose of this assignment to watch as long as I can inbetween flipping channels so that I had something to record. What I found funny is that you can tell by looking at my journal when I stopped working on my halloween costume because I started flipping channels as soon as I was done. I do think that people may become self conscience about what they are watching and how that portrays them. Also I know that since I flip channels that the segments I recorded were more than likely not exactly 15 minutes and a shows ratings should not reflect my impatience. Also these journals from my understanding are done by a select few and those people are paid to do them so I think that it is not reflectsive of the current television environment.
