Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Cheryl Temple & Monica Tame

2.) The trailer and movie poster for Zack and Miri Make a Porno are similar in their approaches to selling the movie. The main elements emphasized are the stars, Seth Rogen(Pineapple Express, Superbad, Knocked Up) and Elizabeth Banks (Definitely Maybe, 40 Year old Virgin). As you can see, both their names are highlighted on the poster, and, in the trailer, their names are the only ones specifically mentioned. The genre is emphasized as well. By using the word "porno" in the title of the movie, fans can expect a comedy with crude sexual content. The simplicity of the movie poster relates to some of Rogen's other films that contain a more "everyday human life"-type humor in them, while the trailer touches on the romantic side with the relationship between Rogen and Banks. Fans of director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats) are targeted somewhat in the trailer with the brief appearance of Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Srike Back, Clerks) and the Star Wars reference (Star Whores).

3.) Zack and Miri's site contains a red band trailer for the movie that viewers who are 18 or older may enjoy. Toward the bottom of the homepage, there's a link to the making of Zack and Miri Make a Porno. There is also an about production link that talks about how Kevin Smith wrote the story with Seth Rogen in mind as Zack. The photo gallery also contains movie stills and production photos. Links to Myspace and Facebook are also provided.

4.) There's been quite a bit of controversy surrounding Zack and Miri. Most of it deals with the fact that the word "porno" is included in the title. An article by Josh Tyler at cinemablend.com talks about how Fox Sports dropped commercials for the movie, as well as how the choice to keep the word "porno" in the title may benefit Kevin Smith in the longrun. We also just recently saw a commercial for the film that showed the title being just Zack and Miri, and excluding the latter part of the title. Also, the movie poster shown above was not the original poster. The first poster that was to be used is shown on the right. An article about the ban of this poster in the U.S. accompanied this image that we found. Also, at zack and miri's website, there is a halloween costume that's easy enough to make just by cutting along the dotted lines.

5.) We have only heard of one site where people can get pirated versions of movies, t.v. shows, etc. Unfortunately, Zack and Miri Make a Porno is not on the list. : (

I had not heard of this movie until the blog assignment, but I'm glad I checked this one out. I'm a sucker for Seth Rogen, so I would most likely catch this in the theaters. The movie trailer made me laugh and that's enough to reel me in.

I had heard about this film in passing, but hadn't seen the full trailer until now. It definitely looks like it has some funny moments, but I highly doubt that I will see this movie in theaters. It looks like a rental.

This past weekend I heard about this movie but combined as a group the only word anyone could remember was, of course, porno. I have been a fan of Kevin Smith's since the first time I saw Clerks all those years ago and Seth Rogen also happens to be one of my favorite actors. From the trailer it seemed that this movie would fall into the category of other Seth Rogen movies, 40 Year Old Virgin, Pineapple Express, Superbad, Knocked Up etc. most of which I saw in theaters. So I can definitely see myself catching the $4.00 matinee showing of Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
