ROLE MODELS

Liz Lackey, Yannis Koutroupis,

Marielle Knemoeller, and Alex Jimenez

2. The movie poster and trailer seem to both emphasize the same aspects of the movie: that the two stars of the movie, Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott, are not suitable mentors for children. The actors’ characters, Danny (Rudd) and Wheeler (Scott) have been sentenced to community service for causing problems on the job, and for destruction of school property. Director David Wain is targeting audiences of this movie by advertising it in both trailer and poster, as a comedy. The poster for this movie shows the main characters doing things not befitting of mentors. Rudd is pictured as though he was urinating on a wall, and Scott is shown drinking what seems to be alcohol. Neither character seems to be the type of people normally chosen as a role model for young children. The poster and the trailer, for the most part apply the same approach for luring in an audience: the comedic approach.

3/4?. The website for the movie "the role model" has a very interesting anddetailed site. It has a intro w ebsite where you can watch a trailer and a restricted trailer. Then you can click on another link which will take you to where you can see the actual site. This one allows you to see movie clips, pictures, and play games. They also have a link for a community out reach program call sturdy wings. This is a organization that is used in the movie and it has an actual link connected with the movie. They also have a outline of what the film is about, its basically a verbal trailer of the film.

5. The movie Role Models with Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd is using the same promotional technique that a lot of movies do. Posters, movie trailers, and an official website are really the extent of what I was able to find at this point promoting the movie, although that could change as we get closer to the November 7th release date. On the imdb.com Role Model’s page there is a news section that links to anything and everything involving the movie, including reviews from movieblog.ugo.com and cinematical.com. Their official site, www.rolemodelsmovie.com, is probably their best promotional tool right now. At the site they have a unique memory game that you can play along with a mock website for their “big brother and sister” organization Sturdy Wings. While spending some time at MTV.com I noticed that there is some information about the movie on the site, including movie trailers and some things with the stars of the movie.

6. When we first met, our assumptions that it would not yet be available on websites to view full because it has yet to be released. There may be files online that can be pulled to download for the more "experienced pirates", but nothing viewable yet. We did find a lot of discussion boards were people were wanting to know if the movie had been posted anywhere, but no answers. The follow are links to websites we searched for the movie Role Models, but to no avail: http://www14.alluc.org/alluc/ & http://surfthechannel.com/

While at first glance at the poster I thought that this would probably be a movie I would not like to see, thinking it to be stupid and degrading; not to my tastes. However, on viewing the trailer, I found myself laughing at the comedy and will probably end up watching it after it comes out on DVD.

I felt the same way as Tara about the poster. I like comedies, but I'm not that into the Judd Apatow brand of comedy (and this looks like that). Upon watching the trailer, it looks like a good movie, it looks inspirational (in the way that a comedy can be inspirational), and I'd probably see the movie after it is available on DVD or on Television.

I think I would probably see this movie. The film features a lot of actors I've liked in other comedies like The 40 Year Old Virgin and Superbad. Most likely I would see this on DVD but stumbling into a theater and watching it is not out of the question either, but I probably wouldn't plan on seeing it either way.

McLovin?
Comedies are great..can't say they are my favorite but who doesn't like to laugh? This is a movie I could enjoy. This movie looks really funny. I don't know that I'd plan to see it at the movies, but I wouldn't mind. Comedies like these are a lot funnier in a crowded theatre.

The trailer sold me on watching the film, with a funny plot and good dialogue for a trailer, but it had to overcome the terrible impression that the poster left on me. "They're about to get more than they plea-bargained for" is pretty standard caption schlock that I see on the posters, usually a lame attempt at wit or something deep. The Pride and Glory poster has something similar with "The last thing you want to uncover...is the truth" Lame captions like these always make me think the film is going to be lame as well.
