Ashley Winkler's Tuesday TV Viewing

Ashley Winkler
Tuesday, 4 November 2008

I want to say that Tuesday was pretty typical in my weekly viewing however, it was a little skewed in terms of what I watched and how long I watched, because of the Election Coverage. On a typical weekday, depending on what time I get home, my television watching looks like this:
1 pm: The Daily Show
1:30 pm: The Colbert Report
2 pm to 5 pm: Whatever I want, sometimes MADTV, sometimes nothing, sometimes even Judge Judy
5 pm to 6:30 pm depending on my mood: ABC News
6 to 7: Scrubs on Comedy Central
7 and 7:30: The Daily Show and Colbert Report
8 pm: Futurama
8:30 & 9 pm (depending on the day): South Park

I did watch a lot of shows I typically watch every day and never miss. Such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, at least twice. I did watch the news like I usually do at the 5 o'clock hour. And Scrubs at 6 pm, Futurama at 8 pm, and South Park at 8:30 (and 9 pm depending on the day, though, Tuesday usually airs a 9 pm episode but because of Indecision 2008 there was no 2nd episode). The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Scrubs, Futurama, and South Park are all the shows that I watch whenever they are on and usually never miss, even though I have seen every episode of Scrubs, Futurama, and South Park at least twice, maybe three times (or more), and have all of the current DVD boxsets of these shows. While I did watch the shows I mentioned, I also watched some things I don't normally watch: The Election Coverage on at 7pm on ABC; Indecision 2008: America's Choice on Comedy Central at 9 pm through 10:15, which was how I found out about the election results, but that's off topic. I also watched CNN's coverage of the election from 10:15 for the next hour, which is unlike me, usually I go to bed at about 10 or 10:30 and not watch any television shows after that. I did not record any of the shows I watched, partially because half of the shows I watched were live. Also, because I have the DVD boxsets of Futurama, Scrubs, and South Park, and if I want to watch the episodes aired that night again, I can.

I did indeed watch some television shows yesterday that were not on my television. I watched a couple of episodes of Death Note in the morning and evening on a few episodes where the episodes are available (like Youtube) since I personally don't watch Adult Swim and I don't like watching television super late. I did watch a television show on DVD, though it's a Direct to video movie of a television show, Bender's Game, the third Futurama movie which actually came out yesterday. All of the telvision that I watched, with the except of an hour was watched in my room and on my television, except for the last hour of television I watched, was watched on my Living Room television, which I watched with my 82 year old grandmother.

Surprisingly, I actually did not mind having to write down my television viewing. I suppose it was because I kept the paper in a place where I could easily grab it, near my computer. Also because I tend to watch the same shows every day without change. It was a little tough because I found I was a little ADD (at least in the afternoon) and wanted to watch or do other things while watching tv (such as surfing the Internet). I do recall that I did switch between Comedy Central and CNN between 9 pm and 10:15 because I wanted to see how LIVE Indecision 2008 was (and it turns out, it was pretty live). Given that the date happened to be Election Day, I watched more television than I normally did, so this was not a typical day. I do think that the reliability of the journals depends on the person. Somebody who is really into television like me probably is more careful and precise about this then say, somebody who doesn't watch television. I know what I watch everyday without fail and somebody who watches television rarely probably doesn't pay attention to that.
