Hillary Reyna's TV Viewing 11.3.08

Mondays are usually very laid back for me, therefore, I usually watch a little more TV. This past Monday I had some running around to do, so the times I watched TV was a little scattered. I didn’t get to watch as much TV as I normally would, but I did find time to watch about three hours of television. I did get to catch All My Children, the Hills on MTV and a little Monday Night Football, a few shows I hardly ever miss on Monday. I was a little disappointed that I missed Dr. 90210 on E. It is also a show I enjoy watching on Monday evenings. There weren’t any shows that I did watch that I usually do not, however, Dora the Explorer was on the television while we were having dinner. That isn’t a usual routine. I wish I would have had time to watch more of the morning and evening news casts. Everyone was preparing for the election, and I felt I missed a lot of the last minute discussions because I wasn’t sitting in front of the TV. I did not record any shows to watch for the next day. The shows I missed usually air again in the week.

I didn’t watch any TV that I wasn’t able to log in my journal. I usually only watch TV on an actual television set because it enables me to multi task. All of the TV shows I watched were on an actual television set and at my house. I watched television by myself until Monday evening. My son was around the entire day, but only watched TV when his cartoons were on. When my boyfriend got home, we watched the Hills and Monday Night Football together and caught the last 15 minutes of the news on KIII. This is our normal routine. Our son watched Dora the Explorer while we sat down for dinner at 7 p.m.

I think having to write down and keep track of the TV I watched was kind of nerve-racking. I wanted to be accurate and having to remember to write it in the journal was hard. I actually meant to set Sunday aside to keep track of the TV shows I watched, but totally forgot so, I chose Monday because I thought I would have watched more TV than I actually did. I probably ended up watching almost half of what I would normally watch. I hardly ever flip through the channels when I am watching one of the shows I regularly view, therefore the 15 minute increments did not bother me. I think having someone journal all of the TV they watched on a regular basis would be difficult, especially in the beginning. I guess once you got into a routine, it would be a lot easier to adopt the habit of tracking the shows you watched, but only what you watched. The journal is intended to track all the individuals in your family and I think having to keep up with everyone would be challenging. It is hard enough to keep up with yourself, but having to observe two or three, even more, individuals behaviors is unimaginable to me. It would never work. Not for ten dollars.
